Terms of Use

These conditions govern every visit, search, and use of material on Santa Barbara County Criminal History. Continuing to use the website signals acceptance of all terms below. If you disagree with them, do not use the site.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no government affiliation. Neither it nor its advertising partners provides a service for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The site points to Santa Barbara County and California public-record resources. It is neither a consumer reporting agency nor a private investigation firm.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site. We operate on our own with no ties to any government office. We do not store official criminal records and we cannot pull records, run official background checks, or file documents for anyone.

Its reference material identifies the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Records Bureau, Superior Court, California Department of Justice, and California Megan’s Law Website as separate official custodians. It may also link to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

You agree that you will not:

  • Break any federal, state, or local law while using this site
  • Use information you find here to stalk, harass, or threaten anyone
  • Base hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions on content from this site
  • Try to break into our systems or gain access you are not supposed to have
  • Run bots, scrapers, or automated tools against our pages
  • Do anything that slows the site down or blocks other people from using it

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information from this site or a linked tool may not be used to harass, stalk, intimidate, threaten, or discriminate. California Penal Code section 290.46 places special limits on use of California Megan’s Law Website information, and misuse may lead to criminal or civil consequences. Registry data supports public safety awareness, never vigilante action or unlawful discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. We do not generate background checks, credit reports, or consumer reports of any kind. Neither we nor our advertising partners provide services built for screening job applicants, reviewing rental applications, calculating insurance rates, or judging creditworthiness. You agree not to use data from this site or any linked tool to:

  • Decide whether to hire or fire someone
  • Screen potential renters or housing applicants
  • Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
  • Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
  • Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

Any check for a regulated purpose must come from a lawful, FCRA-compliant provider or the properly authorized California Department of Justice channel.

5. No Legal Advice

Nothing published here is legal advice. General Santa Barbara County record procedures cannot determine how a charge, conviction, warrant, sealing rule, or expungement remedy applies to one person. Consult a California-licensed attorney for that advice.

6. No Warranties

Everything on this site is provided "as is." We do not guarantee that:

  • The information here is accurate, complete, or current at any given time
  • The site will stay up and running without interruptions
  • Our pages are free of errors, bugs, or security holes
  • Results from our partner search tools will be thorough or accurate

Criminal records change all the time - charges are filed, dismissed, sealed, and expunged. We try to keep up, but gaps are unavoidable. Nothing on this site should be treated as an official statement from a court, sheriff, or government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

We link to sheriff's office sites, court portals, state agency pages, legal aid organizations, and outside search services across this site. Clicking one of those links moves you off our platform and onto one we have no control over. We are not responsible for their content, how they handle data, what they charge, or whether their site stays online. Check their terms before using them.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Santa Barbara County Criminal History or its content partners. Written permission is required to copy, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from that material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for damages that come from using this site - including decisions made based on information found here or through any linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to hold us harmless from any claim, legal action, or demand that stems from how you used this site or from breaking these terms. That includes covering our legal fees and related costs.

11. Governing Law

California law governs these terms, including applicable provisions of the California Consumer Privacy Act and other state consumer law. A dispute related to site use must be brought in a court located in California.

12. Changes to These Terms

We can update these terms whenever we see fit. New terms go into effect the moment they appear on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

We can limit or block your access to this site at any time, for any reason, with no warning.

14. Severability

If a court rules that any part of these terms is invalid or unenforceable, the rest stand. The problem section gets adjusted only as much as needed to make it work.
